Sandra Schizkoske

Artist Statement/Biography

“I am mainly self- taught but have studied art under Michael Roth, Amy Ferrari and Sheila MacDonald-Roberts. I started painting in 2005 and started exhibiting in 2007. I love to try new paints and mediums just to see what they can do.”

Sandra Schizkoske as always been interested in art. In 2005 she took her first painting class and realized that painting is something she had always wanted to do. Since her first class, she has immersed herself in the discipline and is continually experimenting and learning. She started painting still life; then moved to landscapes; and then to abstracts. Each phrase has developed a new level of creativity. She gets great pleasure from her paintings and hopes everyone else also does.

Sandra enjoys working with oil and acrylic due to the fact that she gets to blend the colours with her fingertips or brushes; she loves the feel of being closer to and becoming part of what she is creating. Sandra hopes not to lose that connection with her art, even when it’s sold to an admirer. She wants it to always express who she really is and her pride in her Latvian heritage.

Sandra became co-President of the Kitchener Waterloo Society of Artists in 2010. This position has taught her so much about the art world. She loves to encourage other artists with succeeding in their artistic endeavours and relishes the excitement each art show brings.

Sandra has participated in many group shows in Kitchener-Waterloo, Elora, Fergus and Toronto. Her art work is held by many private collectors in Canada, the United States, China and Europe.
