Artist Statement/Biography

Bulgarian-born, Alexander Ahilov is inspired by the beauty of everyday life, but his art often reflects his determination since early in his creative life to conceptualize the Bulgarian traditional icon in abstract, contemporary images.

He graduated in1991 with a Masters in Drawing and Painting from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, and lived in London from 1991 to 1997 during the most intense time of his artistic development. Alexander had shows at a number of important galleries in England while continuing his education with the study of digital art techniques.

Having moved to Toronto in 1997, he continues to work and develop his art vision and had a number of solo shows, and has exhibited in juried and group shows, and art festivals. Alexander's paintings are in the Bulgarian National Art Museum and private collections in Germany, Italy, England, Japan, Canada and United States.

Alexander is a member of Society of Canadian Artists, and the Federation of Canadian Artists.
