Vue génèrale du Niagara Falls  (À vol d’oiseau or bird’s-eye view)

- by John Bachmann, 1851

This early and very rare ’birds-eye view’ of Niagara Falls is a must-see at our ‘Historical Prints of Niagara Exhibition’ which ends at 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 20th, 2018.

Make your way to TAG Art Gallery soon to see this wonderful piece which is in a section of the Exhibition dedicated to marvelous views of The Falls and environs by European-trained master lithographers and artists who were inspired by the natural splendour of the scene, and were also meeting a booming demand in the mid-19th century for frameable prints of scenes of North America. In the European market, illustrations of Niagara Falls were extremely popular. (This 1851 ‘bird’s-eye view’ is one of the most famous of Niagara Falls, and is based on a painting by Swiss-born artist John Bachmann (1814-96.)

More rare and important prints and original works can be found throughout the Exhibition. Make a date now to see this educational and entertaining presentation of your Niagara history! Visit TAG Art Gallery from Wednesday to Saturday, noon to 6 p.m., until the end of October 20th, 2018.

Remembering Peter Partridge.

At TAG Art Gallery, our fondest memories are of the brilliant and welcoming smile which Peter would offer instantly whenever we met, whether at an important meeting, a formal arts function, or along the sidewalks of downtown St. Catharines. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and his business and community colleagues, and to the music and visual arts groups which he served so ably, energetically, and whole-heartedly. He will be missed. – Tom & Frank Goldspink, TAG Art Gallery
