Jewellery making satisfies Fatima’s passion for three-dimensional structures. By combining traditional and contemporary metal-forming techniques, her goal is to create interesting and unique pieces.
The use of traditional textile methods in the creative process creates an interesting contrast, resulting in a contemporary feel. Each piece demonstrates how tradition can be reinvented visually in the present day while maintaining a balanced sense of design. The addition of color through the use of gemstones brings some warmth to the cold appearance of the metal.
Fatima designs and makes her jewelry under the name Tete Designs. She completed the three year, post-secondary, visual arts program at Central Tech Art Center, where she specialized in figurative sculpture. Fatima also studied goldsmithing at George Brown College and graduated in 2010.
She currently works and resides in Toronto, Canada.
