Artist Statement/Biography

TAG Art Gallery is privileged to present, exclusively, works from Francie McGlynn’s latest artistic endeavour – a series of fascinating and wonderfully-rendered monoprints. Below is a brief commentary from Francie, describing her creative process.

”I have been using found objects (some organic, some synthetic) to construct abstract images. Each print includes several layers of oil paint, superimposed one on the other. I'm interested in symbols and the unconscious so I take each final print and look for a story. Sometimes the story is whimsical as in 'Bird in a Tree’ or ‘Zoom - ba Girl’; sometimes it is more serious. ‘Fire in the Mountains’ resulted from my trip last May to British Columbia which was in flames a month later.

”I first studied print making with Campbell Scott, the late Niagara-on-the-Lake artist, when I was in high school (Grades 12 and 13). He was a wonderful teacher/artist and I hope a little of what he taught me is embedded somewhere in my work.”
