Valerie has been painting and studying art for many years. As a child of 10 years old, she knew that she wanted to be “an artist”. Valerie developed her own style through taking lessons from many talented art teachers. She started in oils and then progressed to acrylics, which are her main medium. She loves the versatility of acrylics, and how they can be manipulated into a thick paste, or to look like watercolours; and how acrylics move around on a canvas. (Valerie also studied watercolours, pastels, coloured pencils, charcoal, and working with palette knives.)
Valerie was an interior decorator for 30 years. Her love of colour and design led her into a career which allowed her to fulfill her creative needs while making a living.
She belongs to the Parkway Artists Guild which has its headquarters at the beautiful Botanical Gardens in Niagara Falls, and she exhibits in the regular shows organized by the Guild. She also belongs to a Niagara-based ‘en plein’ painting group which meets at various locations. Her love of nature shows in her beautiful depictions of the surrounding Niagara area, and of Algonquin Park.
She was born in Hamilton and now lives in Niagara Falls. (from the Artist)
