“My current body of work represents my interest in nature and our place in it. I feel no need to interpret what I see or to be ‘impressionistic’. It reflects my vision of the world as a realist, as well as my need to escape the artificial world of civilization and the urban environment.” (Tim Hough, July 2012)
Tim grew up in Toronto, and has had a life-long interest in art as well as natural history.
As a child he has had an interest in drawing, painting and cartooning and took part in Saturday morning classes at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
He attended Northern Secondary High School in Toronto where he became interested in illustration and drawing the human figure.
He attended the Ontario College of Art and participated in the off-campus studies program in Florence, Italy, in 1980-81 and explored some of the many disciplines of the arts. After graduating he pursued a career as a caricaturist and illustrator and is currently still working as a freelancer. This, however, has not diminished his passion for painting.
He works in a variety of media including oils, acrylic, tempera and watercolour. Tim is also an accomplished draughtsman and enjoys doing portraits and figure studies from the model.
During the late 1980s and the 1990s he was commissioned to paint wildlife subjects as well as occasional illustration projects. His endeavors as a commercial artist have helped him survive as a working artist.
He is interested in landscapes, wildlife and domestic animals, environmental as well as human issues.
His work hangs in private collections in Canada, Britain, and the United States. (from the Artist)
